Friction/less

The version of him that remembers how to breathe.

Friction/less is a cinematic serialized webcomic about exhaustion, identity, and the quiet spaces between reality and escape.

By day, Gen works in the endless fluorescent haze of corporate support queues, scripted empathy, and emotional disconnection. By night, he returns to the Dreamscape, a mysterious world that feels more alive, more honest, and more real than the life he wakes up to each morning.

As the boundary between waking life and dreaming begins to thin, Gen finds himself drawn deeper into a place that seems to know him, remember him, and perhaps understand him better than reality ever could.

Blending introspective sci-fi, surreal fantasy, and emotional realism, Friction/less explores burnout, longing, creativity, and the search for authentic selfhood in an increasingly artificial world.

Issue 01

Dreams vs Reality

Chapter 1 follows Gen through another endless workday beneath fluorescent lights, scripted conversations, and the quiet erosion of routine life. But beneath the monotony, something else waits for him each night, a place beyond exhaustion, beyond expectation, and beyond the waking world itself. As reality begins to blur at the edges, Gen returns once more to the Dreamscape, a mysterious realm that feels more alive than the world he leaves behind.

Issue 02

Fissures & Faultlines

For Gen, routine has always been survival. Work. Home. Sleep. Dream. Repeat. But after a small detour on a rainy evening leads him into a quiet neighborhood bakery, something unexpected begins to shift. A casual conversation. A warm room. A future commitment made almost by accident. For the first time in a long time, reality itself starts to feel…possible. As old habits begin to crack and anticipation quietly takes root, Gen finds himself standing at the edge of something both terrifying and unfamiliar: participation.

Issue 03

Respect the Rise

As flour flies and dough monstrosities rise, Genesis finds himself pulled deeper into the strange warmth of Willard’s late-night baking class. What begins as awkward participation slowly turns into something far more dangerous: connection. Between Yuzuha’s chaotic energy, Duke’s relentless friendliness, Flora’s invitation to a tabletop game night, and the discovery of an unexpected family connection, Gen realizes he’s no longer simply observing life from a distance, he’s becoming part of it. And for someone who built his world around isolation, that might be the most terrifying thing of all.

Issue 04

Respect the Pain

After surviving the emotional and physical chaos of baking class, Genesis takes another dangerous step into real life: the gym. Under Duke’s relentless encouragement, Gen discovers that showing up once is hard, but coming back might be harder. Between sore muscles, missed sessions, awkward texts, and the terrifying realization that someone actually cares whether he returns, Gen begins to understand that consistency is not just about discipline, it’s about trust. And for someone who built his life around retreat, choosing to stay might be the most painful workout of all.
